Coronal Polish Certificate
New Duty for Dental Assistants Under 2025 Regulations
California Dental Educators is proud to offer a Dental Board of California-approved Coronal Polish Course (CP123). This course is designed for dental assistants seeking certification to legally perform Coronal Polishing procedures, and those planning to enroll in our Pit and Fissure Sealant course to qualify for the RDA license.
🚨 Important Regulatory Regulations
Dental Assistants in California may only perform coronal polishing after completing a board-approved course. The earned certificate must be posted in the treatment area where the procedure is performed.
🗂 Course Requirements
Prerequisites (required before receiving course material) You must have all of the following sent to californiadentaleducators@gmail.com

✅ An 8-Hour Infection Control Certificate

✅ A current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (AHA or ARC only)

✅ Chairside assisting experience

This course includes 12-hours of course material

📘 4 Hours Didactic – Home study lecture materials, sent after prerequisites are received

🦷 4 Hours Lab/Pre-Clinical – Hands-on instruction on typodonts at our Rocklin facility

👥 4 Hours Clinical Procedure – Performed on three of your own patients at our Rocklin facility

💡 Clinical Experience
Students will bring three qualified patients, scheduled during the second half of the course. You’ll apply your polishing skills at our Rocklin facility
🎓 Course Competency Expectations
To successfully complete the course, students must:

Use the air/water syringe and suction simultaneously
-
Hold and maneuver a mouth mirror and handpiece for polishing effectively

Understand tooth numbers and surfaces
-
Demonstrate safe and effective coronal polishing technique
-
Pass the didactic exam with a score of 75% or higher
📜 Certification and Compliance
Upon successful completion, you will receive a Coronal Polish Certificate—a legal requirement for performing a coronal polish on patients. This certificate must be displayed at the facility where the coronal polish is being performed.
