Radiation Safety (X-Ray)
California Dental Educators is proud to offer a Dental Board of California-approved Dental Radiation Safety Course (X087) (Dental X-Rays). This course fulfills all the requirements for obtaining your Dental Radiation Safety Certificate and is ideal for dental assistants, sterilization technicians, and front office staff who want to expand their clinical skills.
Course Overview
This course includes:

Home Study Lecture Portion (8-Hours)
Covers anatomical landmarks, radiology basics, infection control, and radiology equipment. You will complete a written exam on the first day of class.

Lab/Preclinical Training on X-Ray Mannequins at Our Rocklin Facility
Learn and practice:-
Infection control procedures
-
Bitewing and periapical exposures
-
Bisecting and paralleling techniques
-
Digital imaging using wall mount and handheld NOMAD

Prerequisites
You must have all of the following sent to californiadentaleducators@gmail.com (required within two days of registration and before receiving course material)

8-Hour Infection Control Certificate

Current BLS Certification ( cannot be online, must be from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross)
Class dates and times
Thursday, 5:30pm-9:30pm
Friday, 5:30pm-9:30pm
Saturday, 9:00am-6:00pm
Sunday, 9:00am-6:00pm
Patient qualifications:
Four (4) Qualified Patients

Must be 18 years or older
-
Must not have had a full mouth series of X-rays in the past 12 months
A full mouth series = 18 individual x-rays, 1 panoramic, or 1 cephalometric image.
(Bitewing x-rays (BWX) and anterior PAs for cavity checks are not full mouth x-rays, and are acceptable)

No patients with full dentures, partial dentures that also include missing teeth on both upper and lower on the same side
-
No patients in orthodontics (braces)
-
No patients that are pregnant
You will complete:
-
2 sets of 4 bitewings
-
3 sets of 18 full-mouth series (FMS) on a manikin
-
4 Clinical Patient X-Ray Experience
*You will bring your own 4 patients one at a time, to your scheduled times. You will perform full- mouth radiographic procedures using the skills practiced in preclinical lab. -
Clinical Patient times will be one of the two depending on registration
order recieved. The exact one will be given to you upon registration:
* Saturday – 4:00 PM
* Sunday – 9:00 AM, 11:00 AM, and 2:00 PM
OR
* Saturday-5:00 PM
* Sunday- 10:00 AM, 12:00 PM, 3:00 PM
PPE Requirements
Per guidelines, students must wear full PPE during lab and clinical sessions. You will need:

8 Level 2 (or higher) disposable face masks
-
1 box of exam gloves (medical-grade, fitted)
-
Disposable isolation gowns or cuffed lab jackets
-
Safety goggles or glasses with side shields
-
Optional: Face shield
PPE Kits Available
If you do not have PPE, a pre-packed PPE kit can be ordered and waiting for you when you arrive at the class. Order your PPE Kit in the toolbar so you are fully prepared for your preclinical session.

Certificate & Compliance
Upon successful completion, students receive a Radiation Safety certificate, which is required before taking any x-rays in the dental office.
This certificate must be maintained and displayed at the dental facility to meet compliance standards.
