QUESTIONS

COVID-19 PROTOCOLS

Full PPE is required when working on clinical patients, including lab coats, masks, goggles, face shields if wearing glasses, and patient gloves.

Please inform us as soon as possible if you or your patient has:

    1. Have tested positive for COVID-19 within the last seven days.

    2. Have been in close contact with someone with COVID-19 in the last seven days.

    3. Have been out of the country in the past two weeks.

Do I have to bring  in my own patients? 

For courses that require clinical patients, students will be required to bring their patients to our location in Rocklin. These courses included

Radiation Safety (X-Ray)

4 Qualified Patients
Each patient must:

  • Be 18 years or older

  • Not be pregnant

  • Not currently in orthodontic treatment

  • Not missing more than 2 teeth in each quadrant excluding 3rd molars

  • Do not have partial or full dentures

  • Not have had FMX, panoramic, or cephalometric x-rays within the past year

  • Have a signed dental x-ray authorization letter and health history from their dentist (these forms will be in the course material)

Coronal Polishing

3 Qualified Patients
Each patient must:

  • Be 14 years or older (14-18) must have a parent or guardian present in the office

  • No calculus (tartar) 

  • Not currently in orthodontic treatment

  • Do not have full or partial dentures

  • At least 20 natural teeth (crowns and dentures are not natural teeth)

  • Have a signed coronal polishing authorization letter and health history from their dentist (these forms will be in the course material)

Pit and Fissure Sealants

4 Qualified Patients
Each patient must:

  • Be 14 years or older (14-18) must have a parent or guardian present in the office

  • Have one tooth per quadrant for qualification

    • Qualified tooth is premolars and molars (no third molars)

    • No restorations (composite or amalgam fillings, or partial pit and fissure sealants)

    • No cavities or suspected cavities

  • Have a signed Pit and Fissure Sealants  authorization letter and health history from their dentist (these forms will be in the course material)

Orthodontic Assistant

1 Qualified Patient
The patient must:

  • Be 14 years or older (14-18) must have a parent or guardian present in the office

  • Must be able to come in on separate times and days of the course

  • Not in orthodontics 

  • Must have permanent posterior teeth

  • Have a signed Orthodontic Assistant  authorization letter and health history from their dentist (these forms will be in the course material)

The OA class must have 2 Students in the class to run the orthodontic coure. If only you register, you will be moved to the next OA class.

TIP: If you wish to not bring a patient, you and the other students can use each other for patients. You must agree and meet the qualifications listed above.

Can I work with other students as a patient instead of bringing my own patients in?

IYes, only if the student meets the clinical patient criteria listed above. You are welcome to work with one another as long as you both agree and qualifications are met. Please let the program director know, so this could be arranged and scheduled accordingly.

How do I get my course Prerequisites ?

Each course has its own set of prerequisites.

8-Hour Infection Control

  • No prerequisites required

  • Must be completed before working around blood, saliva, or hazardous materials in a dental office

 

Radiation Safety (X-Ray)

  • Required:

    • 8-Hour Infection Control Certificate

    • BLS/CPR for Healthcare Providers (AHA or ARC — hands-on only)

  • We offer: Infection Control only (not BLS)

 

Coronal Polishing

  • Required:

    • 8-Hour Infection Control Certificate

    • BLS/CPR (AHA or ARC — hands-on only)

  • We offer: Infection Control and Coronal Polishing (not BLS)

  • Recommended: Some dental assisting experience. This course will grade you on operating a slow speed handpiece, rinsing the oral cavity, and suctioning skills

 

Pit and Fissure Sealants

  • Effective July 1, 2025: Now required to apply for the RDA exam

  • For RDAs:

    • Current RDA license

    • BLS/CPR (AHA or ARC — hands-on only)

  • For Unlicensed Dental Assistants:

    • 8-Hour Infection Control

    • Coronal Polishing

    • BLS/CPR

    • 2CE Dental Practice Act

  • We offer: Infection Control and Coronal Polishing (not BLS)

 

Orthodontic Assistant (OA)

  • Required:

    • Employment in an orthodontic office

    • 8-Hour Infection Control Certificate

    • BLS/CPR (AHA or ARC — hands-on only)

  • We offer: Infection Control only (not BLS)

 

Note on BLS/CPR:
We do not offer BLS training. You must complete a hands-on BLS course (not online) through the American Heart Association (AHA) or the American Red Cross (ARC).

Rescheduling, Incomplete Course, Refund Policies

Rescheduling Policy

  • Rescheduling with 7+ days’ notice:

    • No fee, but only one time is allowed.

  • Rescheduling with less than 7 days’ notice:

    • A 20% administrative fee applies.

    • Students are allowed a maximum of two reschedules:

      • First reschedule: 20% administrative fee

      • Second reschedule: 30% administrative fee

      • After two reschedules: You will be dropped from the course with no refund

 

Incomplete Courses

If you do not finish your course for any reason (examples include: patient no-show, unqualified patient, did not finish within your time constraints, failed attempt without a backup patient, etc.):

  • A 10% administrative fee applies to reschedule and complete the course.

  • If you do not complete the course within 3 months, you must restart from the beginning and pay the full course fee again.

 

Refund Policy

  • If course materials have already been sent (lecture content, forms, etc.):

    • A 15% fee will be deducted from your refund (covers course materials, admin, and Wix fees).

  • If course materials have not been sent:

    • A 10% fee will be deducted from your refund (admin and Wix fees).

How much are the courses? 

The cost of each course depends on the type of course and the clinical workload involved. You can find the exact registration fee for each class in the course description on our website.

Our pricing is competitive with other dental education providers in the Sacramento region and reflects the quality of training we provide.

​

At California Dental Educators, we offer a one-weekend format for most courses, allowing you and your patients to complete the required clinical training in a quiet, supportive setting. Each class maintains a low student-to-educator ratio (1:6) to ensure you receive individualized attention and hands-on guidance.

​

Our educators bring over 50 years of combined experience in training dental assistants, and we are committed to helping you succeed in your dental career.

What is the attire for class? 

Students must wear:

  • Scrubs and closed-toe shoes

  • Required PPE: goggles/face shield (if wearing glasses), mask, gloves, and lab coat or disposable lab coat

PPE kits are available for purchase under the “More” tab on our website if needed.

What are the times of the classes?

Class schedules vary depending on the course. Each course includes:

  • Didactic (Lecture) —Via home study

  • Pre-Clinical — Hands-on practice with manikins at our Rocklin location

  • Clinical — You will bring your patients in at scheduled times, the times will be sent after class registration closes.

How to Request a Refund or Reschedule

  • All requests must be made via email to:
    californiadentaleducators@gmail.com

  • Please allow 7–10 business days for your refund to be processed.

  • To reschedule, contact the Program Director by email to receive a re-registration code on the Wix platform to reserve your new course date.

Course Materials & Certificates

Course materials are emailed within 48 hours of registration.

If you did not get them in your regular email box:

  • Certificates are mailed after course completion.

    • Be sure to enter your full home mailing address correctly

    • Office buildings must include the business name, or mail may not be delivered

    • If not received due to incorrect information on registration page, you must either:

      • Pick it up from the clinical site

      • Or request a duplicate for $15

  • We retain certificates for up to 5 years after course completion.
