Coronal Polishing Course:
NEW REGULATIONS FOR CORONAL POLISH CERTIFICATION
This course meets all the requirements of the Dental Board of California for dental assistants to achieve the Coronal Polish certification (CP123).
This course requires an 8-Hour Infection Control Course and a BLS Certificate.
The Coronal Polish course includes 4 hours of didactic (Lecture) home study, 4 hours of lab/pre-clinical instruction on manikins at our Rocklin office, and 4 hours of clinical experience on your three patients at our Rocklin office.
The program outline for coronal polish includes criteria for coronal polish, plaque and stain formation principles, coronal polishing materials, and techniques for polishing adults, children, appliances, and orthodontic patients. The laboratory portion includes infection control review, operatory and material setup, and coronal polish practice on typodonts. During the clinical patient portion of the lab, you will bring in three patients at specified times of the clinical class time. Once the course has been completed and all competencies have been met, participants will receive a certificate in coronal polish.
Beginning January 1, 2025, Dental Assistants can perform a coronal polish once they have taken and passed a board-approved course. The certificate must be posted in the office where the dental assistant is performing the procedure.
