About the Course
Pit & Fissure Sealant Certification – California Dental Board Approved (PF155)
We are a California Dental Board–approved provider for the Pit & Fissure Sealant Certification. This course fulfills all requirements for current RDAs and for Dental Assistants seeking to apply for the RDA exam.
Course Format & Schedule
Didactic (4 hours total) – 3 hours via home study and 1 hour in person (review + written exam on clinical date)
Lab/Pre-Clinical (4 hours) – Hands-on training at our Rocklin, CA location on typodont teeth, covering infection control, operatory setup, tooth preparation, moisture control, and sealant placement.
Clinical (8 hours) – At our Rocklin, CA, clinical site, you will bring in four of your own patients meeting the criteria below.
Patient Requirements
Each patient must have at least one non-carious, non-restored, natural tooth sufficiently erupted in each quadrant.
Teeth may be molars or premolars.
Didactic Topics
Dental science, tooth morphology, microbiology
Sealant basics, materials, and criteria
Preparation, acid etching, application, and re-evaluation of sealants
Dental materials, pharmacology, and infection control
Certification & CE Units
16 CE Units awarded upon successful completion of the course and all competencies
Pit & Fissure Sealant Certificate issued after completion
Prerequisites
One of the following:
Current RDA license
Current BLS for Healthcare Providers (no online courses)
OR
Dental Assistant with a board-approved Coronal Polish course completion
8-Hour Infection Control Certificate
Current BLS for Healthcare Providers (no online courses)
