Radiation Safety (X-Ray) $695

We are a California Dental Board-approved provider for the Dental X-Ray  Course. This course meets all requirements for obtaining a Dental X-ray Certificate. It is suitable for any member of the dental office, as it benefits dental assistants, sterilization techs, and front office staff,.

The prerequisite you must have before being admitted to class is the 8 hour infection control, BLS, and 3 patients that can get authorization from their dentist for x-rays to be taken by you. If you do not have these do not sign up for this class yet, sign up for another that will give you time to get these documents. These are all Dental-board required.

• Three patients that you must bring in on the the clinical class date. Patient information for when to bring them will be sent out the week of the class date, this could be Saturday or Sunday.

• Your patient criteria must meet requirements of :

  * No full mouth series(18 films), panoramic, or cephalometric x-rays in the past year

  * Must be 18 years of age

  * Patient is not pregnant

  * Patient is not on orthodontics

  * Patient does not have dentures

  * Patient is able to have our health history and dental authorization for x-rays signed off by their dentist.

The lecture portion is a home study that includes anatomical landmarks related to dental radiology, radiology basics, infection control, and radiology equipment. An exam will be given after the lecture portion.

The lab/pre-clinical portion is at our Rocklin, Ca office. This will include infection control, exposure to bitewing, periapical, bisecting, paralleling technique, and digital imaging on manikins. At California Dental Educators, we use the handheld NOMAD for exposure to X-rays. For the preclinical portion, you will expose two sets of 4 bitewings and three sets of 18 full-mouth series on a practice manikin.

During the clinical portion you will bring your patients to our Rocklin office, one at a time, on their scheduled time slot given to you the week before class. You will take all your skills you learned during the preclinical class and take x-rays on your patients.

All dental personnel must pass a board-approved radiation safety course before X-rays are taken on patients. The Certificate must be posted in the facility were the X-rays are taken.

PPE Requirements:

CDC guidelines indicate that each student must wear all PPE. You will need approximately the following PPE for the course:

• 8 disposable face masks, level 2 or higher

• 1 box of medical-grade examination gloves appropriately fitted

• 3 disposable isolation gowns or lab jackets with cuffs and button or zipper front

• Safety goggles or glasses with side shields

• Face Shield (optional)
